No one wants to go to the gas station so often. Though filling up the tank is a pure necessity, doing it less is always on our wish list. This is why checking out the fuel economy of a vehicle before calling it your own is a crucial step in the car-buying process.

At Fred Beans Kia of Mechanicsburg, we want to help our customers in the Mechanicsburg, Harrisburg, and Carlisle area find the right model for them. This is why we have created this guide on the Kia Optima MPG. Though this vehicle is known for its style and innovation, it also has an impressive fuel economy, allowing you to skip filling up during your next commute.

2019 Kia Optima Trims & Engine Lineup

Knowing the configuration under the hood is a great place to start when discussing efficiency. After all, the engine and transmission play a large role in fuel economy. The 2019 Optima comes in four trims with three different engines choices, all offering different MPG ratings.

In the base LX trim, as well as the S trim, you will find the 2.4L DOHC engine. This standard engine provides a great amount of power, serving up 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, making this sedan one to be reckoned with on the streets. Plus, it is paired with a 6-speed transmission for a smooth and seamless ride.

The next trim of the Kia Optima is the EX which is powered by the 1.6L powertrain with a turbocharger which is melded to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This gives you more choices when shifting and helps elevated the efficiency in this model. Though it generates less horsepower at 178, but an elevated 195 lb-ft of torque.

The final trim in the Optima lineup is the SX which is equipped with the hefty 2.0L engine with turbocharger. This boasts a whopping 245 horsepower, 260 lb-ft of torque, and works alongside the Sportmatic® Sports Shifter for the ultimate driving experience.

Kia Optima Miles Per Gallon

Now that you know what is under the hood, it's time to find out just how far this sedan is going to get you on one tank.

If you choose to go with the Kia Optima LX trim with the 2.4L engine, you'll have the perfect combination of power and efficiency. This lineup gives you an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 city/35 highway/29 combined MPG.1

If the S trim is your choice, you will still receive a great fuel economy though it is slightly lesser. It comes in at 24 city/33 highway/27 combined MPG.1

For the highest efficiency the 2019 Kia Optima has to offer, go for the EX trim with the turbocharged engine. With a remarkable 27 city/37 highway/31 combined estimated MPG1, you'll find yourself filling up the tank less.

Finally, we have the SX trim and its robust engine. Since this model produces so much power, the fuel economy does suffer slightly, however, we don't think you're going to be disappointed. You will still receive a 21 city/30 highway/24 combined MPG1, which is pretty darn great.
