Kia Ray Concept Car Reviewed
Introduced at the Chicago Auto Show in early 2010, the Kia Ray concept car is a futuristic looking, low profile sport hybrid that incorporates various environmentally friendly options geared toward a competitive entry in the green car category at the car show. As part of an initiative by Eco Dynamics, a Korean sub-brand of Kia, the Kia Ray concept car highlights the automaker's drive toward being more fuel efficient and eco-friendly.
Designed with lightweight and recyclable materials, the car is extremely aerodynamic. This aids in improving the mileage obtained by the hybrid fuel system - electric and gasoline. Kia also made use of the innovative technology allowing hybrid vehicles to charge their batteries through standard electrical outlets with the Kia Ray.
A direct-injection 1.4-liter engine accompanied by a 78 kilowatt electric motor powers a continuously variable transmission. The front wheel drive car features skinny tires that were utilized with fuel economy and energy efficiency in mind. The stereo system, Green Edge by Infinity, is also designed to consume less electricity than standard car audio systems.
The white leather interior and wood-panel flooring is kept comfortably cool through the use of coated glass and roof-top solar cells that provide supplemental power to the climate control system.
The Kia Ray concept car's introduction in early 2010 was the fifth vehicle revealed by Kia Design
Center America in Irvine, California over a twelve-month period. Kia is obviously taking seriously the task of producing more fuel efficient, aerodynamic, longer range vehicles designed for sustainable green living, and the Kia Ray has added another impressive notch in their belt.
